Schools have different opinions about teacher gifts. In some schools, the parents' association buys each teacher a gift. In others, parents can give what they wish to teachers and other staff. And don't forget about blank books that can be used as a diary. If you are still unsure about a specific item to choose, perhaps you should get a gift card. With a gift card, you choose how much money you want to spend, and the store puts that value into the card. Then, the teacher trades the card's value for the book or another item they choose. Other places that often offer gift cards are restaurants and coffee shops, if you know a place the teacher enjoys.

Teachers often require books or DVDs that they need in their classrooms, but their school can't afford. It may be a good idea to talk with your school's librarian before buying a teacher a gift. The librarian may know what the teacher needs. These could be items for the teacher's curriculum or DVDs that support their teaching. You can also give books or DVDs to the library or pay for a magazine subscription.

Lastly, remember that a cookie and a note go a long way. The best gifts for a teacher can be kind notes written by students and their parents. Many teachers keep every single one of them. Some teachers even pin thank-you notes to their bulletin board. They look at these thoughtful notes on bad days. They are wonderful things that remind teachers why they do the hard work that they do all year. Accompanying the note with a coffee mug is a good idea. Or you can bake some cookies to go along with the note. Nothing would be sweeter.
